PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR INSTITUTIONS COLLABORATE TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO TELECOMMUNICATIONS FOR THE UNDER PRIVILEGED.
Telecommunications company, FLOW, and the Government of Saint Lucia will soon launch a ‘bundle’ aimed at providing telecommunications services to vulnerable groups in Saint Lucia. These services include internet, WiFi and cable.
Deputy Director of Research at the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Uralise Delaire, provided details of the upcoming bundle.
“We are rolling out the FLOW bundle where we are providing these packages to vulnerable people for the cost of only EC$20. The government will provide that bundle to 5000 households. The bundle is being operated in the various constituencies by the councils. So persons can go to their representative’s office to apply. Within our ministry we will also be identifying 400 households with children especially, who will be returning to school and need that type of connectivity for them to do their schoolwork and research.”
The initiative is part of a wider national social protection policy recently developed by the Ministry of Equity.
