Minister for Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries, Hon. Lorne Theophilus said that the art and craftsmanship displayed at Junior Carnival is to be emulated.
He spoke following the successful culmination of the event held at the William Peter Boulevard, Sunday.
“I went around and observed the creativity of the bands, and the craftsmanship of the costumes, and it was obvious that there was effort and talent put into the development and design of the costumes—which is what we are trying to encourage with some of the senior bands,” he said. “This tells me there is a future for carnival in Saint Lucia.”
Chairman of the CPMA, Lydon Arnold, said the key to making carnival viable is to teach the younger generations the fundamentals of the art form which will foster a love for and appreciation of the event.
“I think we need to get more schools involved and that will help in terms of the creativity,” he said. “It’s really about integration, because a lot of the larger bands that participated today are in the school system. That is where we need to focus.”
